HBO has decided to pick up The Plot Against America, a new miniseries by David Simon and Ed Burns that, given our current social and political landscape, feels particularly timely.

Based on the Philip Roth novel, the six-part miniseries explores a different version of American history through the perspective of a New Jersey Jewish family as they watch former aviator and xenophobe Charles Lindburgh rise to the presidency and push the country toward fascism. I could point out the real-world parallels, but I do really have to? Didn't think so.

Simon and Burns, who have previously teamed up for The Wire, The Corner and Generation Kill, will serve as executive producers and writers. In addition producing partners Joe Roth and Jeffrey Kirschenbaum, frequent Simon collaborator Nina Noble as well as Megan Ellison, ex-HBO entertainment president Sue Naegle, Susan Goldberg, Dennis Stratton and Philip Roth have signed on as executive producers.
