Childish Gambino Releases Lighter, Not Altogether Brighter 'Summer Pack' EP

Childish Gambino is a master of the aural/lyrical okie doke. His previous single, "This Is America,"
lulled listeners in with its gospel-meets-Afrobeat stylings before hitting them upside the head with a left turn into tense, dark trap, a twist in mood no doubt helped by the song's provocative video.

While his new Summer Pack EP doesn't contain anything as explosive, there's still some bite in Gambino's summertime breeze. "Feels Like Summer" spills out into a carefree, tropical sonic landscape made for rolling your windows down; at least until you listen to the lyrics, which contain what sounds like melancholy allusions to the downsides of climate change. Serious subject matter  aside, it does feel--and sound--like summer.

"Summertime Magic" on the other hand, is more straightforward, as Gambino focuses on more romantic concerns over a bouncy combination of R&B and eletronic pop.
