Sen. Corey Booker To Officiate New Jersey Weddings

Newly elected New Jersey senator Corey Booker will officiate weddings of gay and straight couples as mayor of Newark now that the state is allowing marriage equality. Booker released a statement saying he was excited to marry couples beginning at 12:01 a.m. Monday.

Booker has long been a strong supporter of LGBT rights, evening refusing to officiate any weddings for the past seven years on principle. His announcement comes after New Jersey's highest court ruled unanimously to uphold an order that same-sex weddings must start October 21, denying a delay sought by Governor Chris Christie.
