A 22-year-old New York man has been charged with killing an older man, with officials calling the murder a hate crime.
Steven Torres allegedly stabbed 69-year-old Ever Orozco to death in broad daylight after Orozco "blew kisses at him." The older man had been dropping off a woman at a doctor's appointment prior to being attacked. Torres is being charged with a hate crime for perceiving Orozco as gay, along with possession of a criminal weapon.
According to The Advocate, "The stabbing occurred at a subway station on 90th Street in the Elmhurst section of Queens at 1:30 p.m. Monday. Witnesses chased Torres before police caught him six blocks from the station. Lobatan said Torres was laughing as authorities cuffed him.
'He was laughing, yes," the witness said. "He was laughing like nothing.'
Torres has also been accused of stabbing another man on Manhattan's Lower East side last Thursday, believing the man was coming on to him. The victim survived the attack.
