12 Years A Slave, based on the true story of Solomon Northup, a freeman who was kidnapped by traders and sold into slavery, might rival Lee Daniels' The Butler come awards season. The movie, directed by Steve Mcqueen, has already sparked a big buzz at the Telluride Film Festival and inspired whispers of Oscar talk.
The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (2012, American Gangster, Salt), Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt (who also acted as producer) and Alfrie Woodard (so you know I'm here for this).
The trailer almost plays like a somber version of Djano Unchained (i.e. slavery and it horrors minus the spaghetti western overtones). Watch below.
